Every guide on this site starts from a Yorkshire homeowner's actual situation. Not a national average, not a generic seasonal calendar written for the Midlands and applied everywhere. Real Yorkshire weather, real Yorkshire soil types -- the clay in the Vale of York, the grit in Calderdale, the limestone in the Dales -- and real Yorkshire prices gathered from local gardening professionals working the area.

Yorkshire is not one county in terms of what a garden needs. The Millstone Grit soils of the Pennine uplands drain fast and go acid quickly -- they behave completely differently from the glacial clay running through the Vale of York from Selby to Thirsk. The chalk Wolds of East Yorkshire dry out in summer in a way that neither the Vale nor the Pennines does. Coastal gardens at Scarborough or Whitby face salt wind and a compressed growing season. A lawn care guide that ignores those differences is not much use to anyone who actually lives in Yorkshire.

All guides are written for Yorkshire homeowners first. That means naming the postcode-level differences that matter -- not writing generically and hoping the reader will adapt. When a guide covers lawn scarification, it notes that timing for a South Yorkshire clay garden differs from timing for a North Yorkshire limestone garden. When a guide covers hedge trimming costs, it gives Yorkshire figures rather than national averages that do not apply here.

Prices in the guides are checked against current quotes from Yorkshire gardeners, not trade association benchmarks or national surveys. Yorkshire rates run below the national average in most areas, and within Yorkshire there is real variation between, say, Harrogate and Barnsley. The guides name those differences directly rather than averaging them away.
